2011 has been a great year for Rollercoaster – Over the 50+ gigs, we’ve made some great friends, and been privileged enough to play some of the finest venues in the UK. The majority of our work has been in the wedding industry, playing wedding receptions up and down the country. It’s fantastic to see all the happy couples taking their first dance, as much as it is watching all generations join the dance floor. What we do is work, but it really is enjoyable, and I know this comes across throughout the show. What’s more, the band is made up of close friends, doing what they love (and what they have spent their lives doing) – playing good music!
2011 also saw Rollercoaster play some great corporate shows for Clinique and Vertical Days, and as a result are being booked again for the 2012 shows. Across the water, Rollercoaster were name-checked in Martha Stewarts Wedding Magazine as the featured entertainment for a 2010 wedding at Babington House. We’ve played birthday parties – 25th, 30th, 40th, 60th’s etc, and wedding anniversaries. And we’ve released our first album – The First Dance – Volume 1 – which is available on all the major download sites. The physical copies have been pressed, and in due course, we will be sending it through to all our past clients… as a kind of thank you!
2012 is looking to be a great year – the best yet. We have around 45 gigs confirmed, and that number is growing. We’ll be back at Kempton Park Racecourse again on 11th July headlining the Irish Night – hopefully we’ll be seeing a few past, present and future clients on the night! The same goes for Surrey University St Patricks (Friday 16th March). We have a limited guest list for this one, so let us know in advance if you want to come along.
On personal notes, 2011 saw the fiddle player Jason’s family grow with the arrival of a baby boy! In 2012, Alistair’s family will also be expecting a new addition. If we played at your wedding, it’d be great to know how you are doing now – we can most probably sympathise with sleepless nights, teething problems… and general baby things. After all, babies are the new rock’n’roll.
In all, 2011 was a great year to get married, release an album, throw a quality gala dinner, celebrate birthdays, celebrate anniversaries, have a baby etc. and the same goes for 2012…. with that, Rollercoaster as a whole would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.
