Surrey University is no stranger to Rollercoaster. We’ve probably played there more than any other band in the history of the uni, mostly in our original band format, as Redwood. As Rollercoaster, this is the third St Patricks night we have played, and as usual, it was a pleasure to play.
The crew and staff at Surrey are welcoming and friendly – and the rig in the main Union is top spec. The tech people running the show definitely know their stuff, and the lightshow is fantastic. We were very well looked after – admittedly we totally over-ordered on the Domino Pizzas (see pictures), but the St Johns ambulance crew were there to pick up the pieces (they finished up the sizeable leftovers).
We hit the stage at 12.30, playing through to 2.20am. It was a very high energy gig, band feeding off an enthusiastic crowd. The set went as follows:
1. GALWAY GIRL
2. TOSS THE FEATHERS
3. TELL MY MA
4. BEAUTIFUL DAY
5. BLACK VELVET BAND
6. FLEUR DE MANDRAGORE
7. DEVIL WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA
8. WHISKEY IN THE JAR
9. MOLY MALONE
10. TIME OF YOUR LIFE
11. MOUNTAIN DEW
12. FIELDS OF ATHENRYE
13. SEX ON FIRE (CELTIC)
14. I GOTTA FEELIN
15. MR BRIGHTSIDE
16. DON’T STOP BELIEVING (didn’t play this one)
17. DON’T STOP ME NOW
18. BROWN EYED GIRL
19. SWEET HOME ALABAMA
20. 500 MILES
21. SIT DOWN
22. LION MAN
23. CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA
24. FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK
25. IRISH ROVER
