This was our first visit as Rolleroaster to the Farnham Maltings, and so, we were told, was it the first time the Maltings had hosted a wedding! However, as our original band Redwood, we have played the Maltings countless times, and had countless superb gigs there. A home from home, but this time playing to a wedding crowd…
Nicola and Dan had seen us at Cheltenham races, when we were headlining the Irish day… so this was to be more intimate, though the venue was perfectly suited. We had a large black backdrop behind the stage – which immediately helps the sound, and makes the band look good… plus stage lights to add to our own. So the stage really was set, when Nicola and Dan danced for the first time as wife and husband, to Ho Hey, by the Lumineers, played by the band. From that point we varied the set for the Irish / English crowd, and they danced away, displaying some fine dance moves. Thew second set was where it really took off – and what a feeling to be part of it! The danced, bounced, sang, and gave the band exactly what they needed – a totally enthusiastic crowd to bounce the music off’a! Naturally Fields Of Athenry went down a storm – there were a few London Irish supporters in the crowd (the groom play for one of the London Irish teams)…
We had to finish by 11am, though we could have easily continued.
Thankyou to the crowd for being so awesome – it was a very memorable gig. Huge congratulations to Nicola and Dan – thanks for looking after us – hopefully see you all again some time!
