Surrey University were listed as the best University in the UK by the Times, in October 2015. To celebrate, the university had a celebration, including live music, street food, flames swillers, stilt walkers, and a huge firework display. And the main band of the evening was Rollercoaster.
The stage was within a large Marquee, open one end – as could be found at any large festival. When we hit the stage, we were playing to a few thousand. By the end, there were around 5,000 people stretching back to the food stalls and bar… needless to say, it was a fantastic gig. Looking around the crowd in front of us, there were loads of phones filming our set, and loads of glow sticks in various configurations, which were waved upon request… and the crowd was made up of all nationalities. It was a great vibe – probably one of the loudest to sing back during 500 Miles… a truly appreciative crowd throughout. The set was short, just 30 minutes, but was definitely sweet….and it was a shame to have to send the crowds off to see the fireworks after!
University gigs are always a pleasure to play – hopefully we’ll play more of them soon. It’d be great to see any of the pictures from the set – there was certainly enough mobile phone footage out there 😉
