First visit to the Double Tree Hilton at the MK Don’s Stadium in Milton Keynes, and for a gig that promised to be one to remember. We’ve played country balls, hunt balls, weddings for big farming families etc. and they always rock. It’s great to be able to mix up our entire repertoire, and have the crowd go for it – fiddle’n all.
This was a ball for the Bucks County farmers, with a meal, auctions etc. and the dance itself. From the onset, the organisers were hugely welcoming, and made us feel at home. The stage was a two level setup, and with the 7piece band (with Jonty Finn on percussion as the 7th member, as Chris Haigh – fiddle/ mandolin – had a precious booking). With Holly joining us on vocals at the front, Alex on keys at the back, and Jason on fiddle at the side, it was going to be a fun gig.
We eased the crowd in with a few Irish tunes, and the crowd of 600 guests hit the dance floor…. and didn’t stop till the closing song. We had a short break, where Chris put his DJing skills to good use, then pushed on. Final song, at the request of the organisers, was God Save The Queen – we played the Queen version… and then the lights came up, and the party was over.
They were a great crowd to play to – and as I say, wonderful to play the full variety of music, and see the dance floor bouncing along, from Kings Of Leon to the traditional Irish tunes. Thanks for looking after us, hopefully see you again next year!
