These guys had seen the band at the Thursley Charity fundraiser, the previous year, so they knew what was in store for their big 50th birthday party! And it was certainly done in style…
James Bond was the theme for the guests, and the marquee etc was styled accordingly. We threw in a few Bond tunes (Nobody Does It Better, Skyfall), along with some other requests (Son Of A Preacher, Video Killed The Radio Star, Mustang Sally) – ones we would’t usually include in the set.
From the word go, people were up and dancing, with cocktails on tap at the bar (next to the huge 007 gun ice sculpture ‘vodka luge’). The marquee looked fantastic, as did the guests…
We had the 6 piece band – including Jason on fiddle, Alex on keys, and Holly on vocals… which meant we could play the full repertoire available. At one point though , Holly was left crouching on the floor as a huge bat found it’s way into the marquee and started looping at high speed… though I would prefer a bat to the immense hornets we had to contend with at one gig…
It was a great gig, in a beautiful location. Sue and Jon looked fabulous in their respective outfits – a lovely couple. Happy 50th birthday – thanks of looking after us!
